Papelblown!

Posted by redsoxcollector on October 11, 2009 at 9:42 PM

Well, the aggravation is over for 2009.  Two games of absent offense followed by a game 3 bullpen implosion.  Wait till next year.  Best of luck to the Angels.

PS - anyone know why .147 hitter Jed Lowrie was pinch hitting in the bottom of the ninth??

I thought the same thing when Jed came in. Only thing I could figure is that Gonzo is supposed to be horrible at the plate even though he seemed clutch to me late in the season. I hope they bring him back. I love Gonzo at short. Was very dissapointed when they let him go to Cinci before.

Who's Gonzo, I have seen that name around on the trade pages? After the Papelbon mishap, I read on the net he might get traded to get Billy Wagner from the Mets. I will be quite :( , I have gotten to like him.

Gonzo is Alex Gonzales. We got him at the trade deadline for Justin Masterson. We already got Billy Wagner from the Mets. He probably won't be back though unless Papelbon does get traded...

My guess is Pap will get traded this year, he has made it clear he will be expecting Rivera-type money in '11. Would like to see them keep Wagner for another year while they ease Daniel Bard into the closer role.

Red Sox 2010 With several player contracts ending in 2010 I personally hope the Red Sox do not go crazy trying to remake the team this off season. Sign Bay or not. I do not think he is worth the contract he will want. The pitching will be better in 2010 as is. Short stop and maybe Left field and Catcher need a warmer body and the bench need some youth. The free agent class of 2011 will offer any good team the oppunity to retool. The Red Sox should have the money to spend and in 2011 Drew's contract expires. I can see the Red Sox winning 90 games next year and fixing third base, dh, short stop and catcher after next season. I just hope the low risk no reward days are behind us. Now the Commish of baseball after those two summer evening games we just watched at the new Bronx Zoo should have flame throwers and mud cannons at the WC games so all America can see what the west coast is like this time of year. Weather wise post season is now a joke.

What a big mistake on Papelbon's part, we all have bad days. I read somewhere on the net that he might get traded to another team. That will be sad, I really liked Jeff Reardon from the 90's was a great closer.
